Hi, I’m Ellie (also known as Eri, my Japanese name), the designer behind Bluefin Works.

As a freelance designer, mom, and wife, I’m passionate about creating designs that tell stories and make everyday moments feel special.

My journey started with a fascination for aquariums. I fell in love with how their creative design and customer experience could transport us into completely different worlds. After earning a B.S. in Marine Biology, I interned and worked at aquariums around the world, traveling to over 40 aquariums (I’ve lost count at this point!). It was during this time that I discovered my love for exhibit and spatial design, which led me to take on side design jobs and eventually pursue a full-time career in design.

When I was planning my own wedding, I realized there was a need for personalized, unique designs that truly reflect individuals. Back in 2012, I struggled to find items that reflected my husband’s and my shared passion for drumming or ways to incorporate animals into our wedding stationery. This inspired me to launch Bluefin Works Event Stationery, focused on providing one-of-a-kind, personalized décor for events. After taking a long pause during the pandemic to refine my graphic design skills through a full-time graphic design job, I’ve returned to focusing on Bluefin Works.

Fun fact: I named my business after my favorite fish, Bluefin Tuna, to honor my roots and my wish to eventually give back to the field.
