6 Activities we did for our Frozen themed 4th Birthday Party

We fought the Frozen craze for as long as we could for no apparent reason, but when our 3 year old came back from grandma’s house having just watched it, she knew that she wanted her birthday party to be about everything Elsa.

She wanted Elsa decorations, Elsa costume, Elsa activities and there was no stopping her. After we watched it for the first time, we understood why -She is so cool (pun intended)!

This says a lot about how much she’s grown. This was the first birthday she really had a strong vision for, and along with that, she knew she wanted to invite some of her best friends.
Until now, her birthday parties were kind of mostly for adults to enjoy. We invited family friends, and didn’t have activities planned or anything, but this year we decided we’d do a party just for her and her friends. We only invited her close friends around her age, and even made it optional for their adults to come. With prepping and with our younger son who’s a one year old,  the idea of entertaining a bunch of kids made me nervous, but with the help of Mae’s super grandma who is an expert at entertaining a group of kids, it was a huge success!

Today I’m going to share the 6 activities we did for the party.

Note: I couldn’t even TRY to do half the activities we did if it weren’t for grandma. She gathered all the materials and planned out each activity, and they were all perfect for her age and brilliant.
There may be some ideas from Pinterest, and if I owe you or someone you know proper credit for the idea, please let me know and I’d be happy to share and make friends.

1. Snowflake Cookie Decorating

This was a huge hit for kids and adults alike. Grandma prepared a few colors of icing to spread on the cookies with plastic spoons, and many options of sprinkles in FROZEN colors that were used for decorating. It was simple, colorful, yummy, and a perfect touch of messy. All around a great activity.

Kids were able to choose to eat it then or take it home. We were surprised to find that many kids chose to take it home and show their artwork to their family which turned out to be a nice favor as well. I’d definitely recommend doing this by preparing a bag or plate to take home- this way you can limit giving the kids too much sugar too!

2. Making snowflakes with Paper

This is a great activity that doesn’t require too much planning. If you choose to do this, you only need some colored paper and scissors, but you’d probably want to have enough scissors for everyone, unless you have a side craft project that they can do while they wait their turn. Luckily, my husband Josh is a director at the Music and Arts Center, so we borrowed a few pairs of Children-safe scissors or this party.
The kids loved this. When I asked the kids what their favorite activity was, some of them answered this one, which was a surprise to me!

3. Pin the nose on Olaf

This was a fun and quick activity that doubles as party decor.
We turned them around a few times with blindfolds on, and they pinned the noses where they thought they should go. This was really difficult and fun!

Tip: I put the fake snow material in front of the poster just for fun, but it turned out to be a nice marker for the kids to feel when they’re close to the wall. Accidental win!
However, don’t make the same mistake I made by not having a blindfold ready. Right as we started, I realized I don’t have anything ready, and the best we could find was a baby blanket and it looked a bit silly. Oops.

I made the Olaf poster using the back of calendar paper since we were low on time, but I also created a colored version with a blue background that you can print out from vistaprint. I’m happy to give it to you for free along with instructions on how to get it printed for maybe even less than $15 (depends on their sale) if you’re interested. Just send me an email or leave me a comment if you’d like me to have this available.

4. Snowball race

The kids split up into two teams, and raced who can transport the styrofoam “snowballs” from one bucket to another. Another perfect activity for this age group.

After seeing this photo, I realize it could have been a balloon too- that would be tricky and fun!

5. Frozen memory game

Grandma printed out  pairs of Frozen themed letter sized cards, and they did a memory card game. This idea can be used for any themed parties really. I think there were 6 different pictures, and it was just the right amount for this age group.

6. “Freeze” tag / Frozen Musical chairs with Frozen wands

We technically didn’t get to do this as we ran out of time, but this was one of the activities planned by grandma.
Grandma made these cute snowflake wands that the kids get to hold as props for freeze tag or musical chairs type of game (of course with music from Frozen).
Kids this age love exciting games like these, music, and holding wands, so this would have been a great one to play!

For us, these cute wands made great party decorations and favors, and a fun thing that kids got to play with.

And that’s all for the activities!

I plan to do another post for the rest of the party details. To be continued…
