A year in review..

As I look back on 2013, I’m filled with appreciation—for how far things have come, the people I’ve met along the way, and the unexpected moments that shaped this little business of mine.

When I started Bluefin Works in August 2012, I didn’t know what to expect. Even into early 2013, things were slow, and I began to question whether it was all going to work out. I wasn’t making enough sales to feel confident, and the holiday season—which I assumed would be busy—turned out to be my slowest. At one point, I was so focused on saving money for the shop that I hesitated buying fruit at the grocery store. That’s how tight things felt.

I had doubts, but I also had encouragement—from friends, family, and the kindest customers who took a chance on me. Slowly, I added more items, refined my designs, and over time, those first few orders turned into more. Each one felt like a little boost of encouragement, telling me, “Keep going.”

By the time event season arrived, things picked up. I was busy fulfilling orders, working with amazing people to create something special for their celebrations—and I loved it. It reminded me of why I started in the first place.

Then something incredible happened: my Christmas tree luminaries were featured in the December issue of InStyle Magazine. Our apartment turned into a Santa’s workshop overnight. Seeing one of my creations in a national magazine was surreal. It felt like a sign that I was on the right path—and a glimpse of what might be possible if I kept building.

So while 2013 had its hard moments, it was also full of growth. I learned so much, found a clearer voice for my brand, and gained a deeper appreciation for every bit of support I’ve received.

To those of you who have followed along, cheered me on, or supported my shop—thank you from the bottom of my heart. You’ve helped shape this journey more than you know.

Here’s to continuing to grow, learn, and create in 2014. May this new year bring joy, clarity, and celebration to your lives, too. 💛
